With nearly 30 years of experience, the University of Oradea Press has been, since its establishment, a space for valorising and disseminating the teaching activity and research results of the Oradea academic community, as well as of researchers from other academic centres in Romania and abroad, publishing books, university courses, journals and periodicals indexed in prestigious international databases.
The University of Oradea Press aims to publish high-quality, well-founded, current and relevant scientific works in the targeted research fields, supporting both the students, master's students and doctoral candidates enrolled in the university's study programmes, and the broader academic and professional communities.
Through agreements and partnerships signed with similar publishers and institutions in Romania and abroad, the University of Oradea Press is committed to supporting, at the highest level, the publication and promotion of scientific works published under its imprint.
The University of Oradea Press covers all research areas specific to the academic study fields.
The University of Oradea Press was established in 1995, by Order of the Minister of Education no. 5047, as an editorial structure subordinated to the University of Oradea, without legal personality. The founding of the press coincided with a period of dynamic expansion of the University of Oradea, which, after 1990, considerably diversified its academic offer and attracted an ever-growing number of academic staff and researchers with significant scientific output.
In its early years of activity, the press focused on publishing the textbooks and university courses required for teaching, contributing to the stocking of the university library with up-to-date bibliographic resources and to reducing dependence on publishers from other university centres.
Gradually, as editorial experience accumulated and as a result of the growing reach brought about by an expanded publication portfolio, the press extended its profile beyond university textbooks, launching series of monographs and collective volumes in fields such as philology, history, the arts, theology, economics, and the exact and technical sciences.
The recent period (2020–present) has marked a substantial expansion of editorial activity and an increasingly pronounced orientation towards digital publishing, through the publication of works online and through offering access to PDF versions of titles, with open-access options for works funded from public or research funds. This approach has consolidated the press's position as a provider of quality academic content in the digital age, while maintaining the traditional editorial standards that have distinguished it over three decades of activity.
During this period, partnerships were established with publishers and academic institutions abroad, and the presence of the press's publications in international catalogues such as WorldCat and KVK (Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog) grew significantly, increasing the global visibility of research carried out at the University of Oradea.
Journals published under the press's imprint have achieved indexing in prestigious international databases, which has attracted collaborations with authors from the European academic sphere and transformed the press from a predominantly local structure into an active participant in the international dissemination of knowledge.
With an academic and encyclopaedic profile, the University of Oradea Press has been, since its establishment, a space for valorising the scientific output of the academic staff of the University of Oradea, as well as the contributions of researchers from other academic centres in Romania and abroad, publishing scientific books in Romanian, as well as in English, French or German (monographs, treatises, dictionaries, doctoral theses, collective volumes), university courses, journals and periodicals indexed in prestigious international databases.
In order to increase the visibility of the press's publications in international academic databases, the journals and some of the volumes published by the press are indexed or present in: CEEOL, EBSCO, WorldCat, KVK, Scopus, WOS (selectively, for the journals with the highest impact).
The University of Oradea Press fulfils its legal deposit obligation by sending copies to the National Library of Romania, as well as to the "Gheorghe Șincai" County Library in Oradea. Books published by UO Press are also present in various other libraries in Romania (following orders from those libraries) and abroad; collaboration with the authors plays an important role in this process.
The editorial activity covers the entire spectrum of research dissemination formats: specialised monographs, thematic collective volumes, proceedings of national and international conferences organised at the University of Oradea, collections of studies and periodic scientific journals. Through these varied forms of publication, the research results of published authors are made available to the national and international academic community. Works published by the press complement and enrich the body of specialised literature available in the covered fields, being present in university course bibliographies, in the reference lists of other researchers and in reviews published in national and international specialised journals, bringing original perspectives to international debates in the field.

The University of Oradea Press does not sell books commercially; however, upon request from readers, it sends review or reading copies via courier/postal service. Collaborations with university libraries, cultural institutes and professional associations in the region contribute to the circulation of academic books beyond the university's immediate environment. An important role in the distribution process is played by collaboration with authors and making books and journals available to bookshops, libraries and the general public.

The process of attracting manuscript proposals is a strategic component of the press's activity, aimed at identifying and leveraging the most valuable results of national and international academic research. The manuscript acquisition strategy relies on several complementary approaches:
Collaboration with university departments. Press editors maintain permanent contact with the academic departments of the University of Oradea, with research centres and doctoral schools, identifying works with editorial potential and inviting authors to submit manuscript proposals. This direct collaboration allows:
Attendance at conferences and events. Press representatives actively participate in national and international conferences organised at or by the University of Oradea, identifying quality papers presented and inviting authors to publish their research results with the press. This direct presence in the academic environment contributes to:
Public calls for manuscript proposals (Call for Manuscripts).
Periodically, the press issues public calls for manuscript proposals in priority publishing fields. These calls are:
The press receives editorial proposals through plans submitted by the faculties and research centres of the University of Oradea, as well as editorial proposals from outside the University of Oradea — Romanian and foreign academics and researchers, institutes of the Romanian Academy, teachers from the pre-university system, etc.)
The evaluation of manuscripts submitted for publication is carried out through a peer-review system, by two independent evaluators, specialists with national and international recognition in the field of the manuscript, within the Scientific Council of the Press (SCP).
UO Press supports excellence in research and education. To this end, and in order to maximise the impact and increase the visibility of our publications, we have initiated a process of establishing partnerships with prestigious institutions in Romania and abroad.
Together we aim to achieve the following objectives:
